Jane focuses on creating new forms in her abstract paintings. Planes, space, colour and surfaces are her primary concerns.
The abstract language of her paintings have been influenced by her enjoyment of urban life. They reflect what she sees around her, the glass and steel of contemporary architecture, the grid systems of our streets. The colours at certain times of the day reflecting off buildings and water. A visual urban language that man has created, adrift from nature.
With each series of paintings Goodwin aims to find a calm balance and clarity, through the rhythmic flow of colour and harmonious shapes and use of space.
The artist aims for you to see something different each time you happen upon the canvas; seeking not to lecture or dictate - but probe, inspire and stimulate.
The paintings are connected to a long lineage of abstract works, the Concrete artists of the 1930's and the Systemic artists of the 1960's. She cleverly plays with light, showing a prowess and command of geometry, aptly shifting from darkness into something brighter in a seamless and wholly original way.
